Nearly forty years ago my colleague and dear friend CLYDE FRANKLIN REED (*30 April 1918, High Point, North Carolina) has published his most useful and remarkably complete ** Index Isoëtales ** in Bol. Soc. broter., ser. 2, 27: 5-72. Augusto 1953, virtually the first index of this most tricky group of the so-called " Fern-Allies ''. This index contains practically all names - from those in the rank of class down to the ones in infraspecific ranks - published from 1696 - vere 1689 (J. RAY 1689: Synopsis methodica stirpium britannicarum [ed. 1]: 210 [22 Januarii 1689]-up to the year 1950.
